  • Multi-channel voltage regulation: The chip has multiple built-in low dropout regulators (LDOs) to provide stable voltage output for different modules in the system. Common output voltage ranges include 1.8V, 2.5V, 3.0V and 3.3V.
  • Power Path Management: The AXP2101 can intelligently manage the power path to ensure efficient use of power in different operating modes (such as charging, discharging, standby, etc.). It supports multiple power inputs, including USB, AC adapter, and battery.
  • Protection functions: To ensure the safety of the system, the AXP2101 provides multiple protection functions, such as overcharge protection, over-discharge protection, overcurrent protection, and short-circuit protection.

AXP2101 functions

The AXP2101 encapsulates a range of power management functions designed to meet the dynamic power needs of modern portable electronic devices. It integrates various power management functions with efficiency, safety, and protection features, making it the first choice for designers who are committed to cleverly control power consumption and extend battery life in their designs.

Integrated power management functions

  • The all-round design of the AXP2101 integrates multiple power management functions into a single chip, reducing the reliance on external components and saving board space in electronic devices. These functions cover DC-DC converters, low dropout regulators (LDOs), battery charge management, power sequencing, and auxiliary power functions.

Battery Charge Management
  • Its most important role is to manage battery charging efficiently. It supports various charging modes and protocols to facilitate charging from various input sources such as USB, DC adapters, and wireless chargers. Noteworthy features include battery voltage and current monitoring, charge termination, and safety assurance to ensure safe and optimized battery charging.

Power Distribution and Regulation
  • The AXP2101 precisely regulates voltage levels within the device to ensure stable power supply to system components. With its suite of DC-DC converters, it expertly adjusts voltage levels as needed to optimize power consumption and extend battery life.

Power Sequencing and Management
  • Seamless power sequencing is essential to ensure stable operation of electronic devices. The AXP2101 cleverly arranges power sequencing to ensure that different components start up and shut down in a reasonable order, thereby mitigating issues such as voltage spikes and system instability.

Low Power Modes and Efficiency
  • For optimal power consumption, the AXP2101 provides a range of low power modes and features such as standby mode and power gating. These features effectively reduce power consumption in idle or low-load conditions, thereby extending the battery life of portable devices.

Safety and protection features
  • AXP2101 integrates a range of safety features designed to protect devices and batteries from hazards such as overvoltage, overcurrent, overheating and short circuit. These protections help prevent device damage while ensuring safe operation under various operating conditions.

AXP192 & AXP2101

AXP192:
  • It is a relatively mature PMU chip, which is widely used in various ARM-based embedded systems.
  • Supports multiple power input types, including lithium battery, USB power supply and adapter power supply.
  • Provides a wealth of power output options to meet different types of load requirements.
  • Contains charging management circuits, which can charge lithium batteries efficiently and safely.
  • Usually has an integrated ADC (analog-to-digital converter) to monitor parameters such as voltage, current and temperature.
  • May include functions such as LED driver, RTC (real-time clock), temperature sensor, etc.

AXP2101:
  • Compared to AXP192, it may be a newer or more advanced version with more functions and improved features.
  • Being mentioned in Allwinner Technology's platform means that it may be specially optimized for Allwinner's SoC (System on Chip).
  • It may provide more advanced power management solutions, such as higher efficiency, lower power consumption, and more sophisticated power control strategies.
  • It may integrate more peripheral interfaces and functions, such as TWI bus (a bidirectional two-wire serial bus similar to I²C).
  • It may have more comprehensive protection mechanisms, such as overcurrent, overvoltage, undervoltage and overtemperature protection.

To conduct specific data analysis and comparison, we need to consider the following aspects:

  • Power input and output specifications: including maximum input voltage, output voltage range, output current capability, etc.
  • Power efficiency: How efficient is the PMU conversion under different load conditions.
  • Charging management: charging algorithm, charging current and voltage regulation capabilities.
  • Functional integration: In addition to basic power management, what additional functions are integrated.
  • Size and package: The physical size and pin layout of the chip, which is very important for designing PCB boards.
  • Power consumption: No-load power consumption and average power consumption in working state.
  • Operating temperature range: The operating temperature range of the chip, which is critical for extreme environment applications.
  • Cost: The price of the chip, and the cost of related peripheral components.
